As I sat down to write this blog, I turned on the TV, and the television show "Boy Meets World" was currently playing in the background. I began to reminisce about my childhood and how I would watch this show every day after school. It made me really miss the '90s, and how everything used to seem so easy and fun as a kid. I also began to wonder what ever happened to the actors and actresses in this how. After the program ended, they were never really seen in anything else, which is what seemed to have happened to most television stars during the ‘90s.
When I used to watch this show as a kid, I used to pretend that I was Tapanga Lawrence. I thought she was the coolest person to be when I was growing up. I would try to dress like her, wear my hair like her, and act just like her. Unfortunately this included her weirdest phases, in which she would pretend the “channel” famous philosophers and psychologists. I also used to like Sean Hunter when I was growing up, but after having watched the episodes as an adult, he tends to be really annoying at times. As an adult, my favorite character has become Corey Matthews. His sense of humor and carefree attitude makes him a perfect actor to play the main character of the show.
It makes me sad that nowadays you can’t seem to find a genuinely good television show such as “Boy Meets World.” Everything on TV today is a reality show, a game show, or a combination of both. Almost every single television program that exists sends the wrong messages to kids and teenagers. These messages include themes of instant gratification, selfishness, and materialism. “Boy Meets World” taught children lessons about how to care for others and how to be a good friend to someone in need. Although there are not many decent television programs left, I am glad that there are reruns of shows like “Boy Meets World,” for now.
